GALLERY INTERNSHIP PROGRAM 2023-2024

Situated in Fort Worth’s vibrant Cultural District, Fort Works Art (FWA) is an innovative hybrid space dedicated to supporting and highlighting the works of contemporary artists. Currently, Fort Works Art is seeking a highly motivated, well-rounded, and enthusiastic individual to work part-time as its Gallery Intern. This internship offers a unique chance to be fully immersed in a fast-paced creative environment with the opportunity to connect with a greater network of professional artists, businesses, institutions, and more in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

In addition to a passion for or background in contemporary art, a qualified candidate will possess good communication and writing skills, be well organized, and be computer proficient. Experience working with various software programs including Adobe Creative Suite, MailChimp, Google Workspace, and Dropbox is a bonus. Previous experience working in an art gallery or similar organization is not required but preferred.

Additionally, Fort Works Art advocates for setting fair wage standards in the art world. We are pleased to continue our paid internship position for 2022 - 2023. The selected candidate will be compensated with an hourly wage. If needed, academic credit is also available.

Under the supervision of the gallery director and gallery manager, the intern’s various responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

VISITOR AND CUSTOMER SERVICES

  • Act as the first point of contact for artists, vendors, clients, and visitors

  • Foster an inviting environment for our community

  • Greet visitors, answer questions, and fielding inquiries

  • Handle foot and phone traffic

  • Care for the gallery space by maintaining a clean environment

EXHIBITION DEVELOPMENT

  • Paint or repair walls and pedestals

  • Hang and light artwork

  • Assist with the development and creation of exhibition materials

  • Operate audio-visual equipment as dependent on special exhibitions

  • Ensure the safety of artworks in the gallery

ART AND BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION

  • Aid with the coordination of social media outlets, websites, newsletters, and email subscription lists

  • Assist with the organization of a growing database of artists, artworks, and customers

  • Assist with the promotion of the gallery and its artists through public relations and marketing

  • Help with the coordination of activities, programs, events, and receptions

  • Help with the creation and management of appointments, meetings, agendas, and calendars

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Be a current student in an undergraduate or graduate degree program or a college graduate

  • Must be able to work a minimum of 20 hours per week on a flexible schedule with events as needed in a one-year commitment

  • Must be able to lift and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds

  • Must live in the area and have reliable transportation
